The 2025/26 Champions League got off to a flying start on Tuesday, with the first goal of the new European season arriving just nine minutes into PSV Eindhoven's clash with Union Saint-Gilloise.

At the Philips Stadion, Union Saint-Gilloise drew first blood when Promise David converted a penalty in the 9th minute. The spot-kick was awarded after Ricardo Pepi was fouled in the box, with referee Anthony Taylor pointing straight to the penalty spot.

David calmly sent goalkeeper Kovar the wrong way to slot the ball into the centre of the net, marking the opening goal of a Champions League campaign set to deliver plenty of excitement.

Meanwhile, other early fixtures of the evening included Athletic Bilbao hosting Arsenal, kicking off the new European season alongside the Dutch-Belgian encounter.
