Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal all look set to battle it our over Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Dutch international announced on Tuesday that he would not be renewing his contract in Rome and will thus be available on a bosman at the end of the current campaign.

That news has alerted a host of Premier League sides, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal all thought to hold a very real and very serious interes tin the 26-year-old.

English publication 'The Daily Mirror' reports that the 31-cap Holland international would prefer a move to United over all others, with Jose Mourinho thought to be receptive to the idea of bringing in another centre-half following Victor Lindelof's failure to replicate the form he showed at Benfica since his £31m summer move.

However, 'The Daily Mail' reports that Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool could also swoop, having considered making a move for the player last summer, whilst Arsenal are also known to have watched De Vrij in action.

De Vrij has become a key player for Lazio since joining the club from Feyenoord back in 2014, but is keen to "get out of his comfort zone to achieve his desired goals."

With no fee to be paid and the potential to acquire an experienced international in his prime, there is likely to be a scramble for De Vrij's signature, but at this moment in time it is unclear who will win the battle.
