The Premier League announced on Thursday that an extra transfer window in the summer will be added to accommodate FIFA’s Club World Cup after clubs voted in favour of the change.

An extra transfer window in the summer will be added in the English top flight to accommodate FIFA’s Club World Cup. The announcement arrived after it was confirmed that Premier League clubs voted in favour of the change.

"Premier League clubs have today agreed the dates for the Summer 2025 Transfer Window," reads a statement from the Premier League after a Premier League shareholders’ meeting was held on Thursday in central London.

"The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September."

The major change will allow Chelsea and Manchester City - the only English top-flight sides competing in the Club World Cup - to register new players ahead of the new revamped competition, kicking off in the United States on June 14.

Earlier this week, it was reported that a meeting was scheduled on Thursday for Premier League clubs to revisit the idea of an early closure of the summer transfer window, closing it before the 2025-26 season begins on August 16.

However, the proposal was pushed back by shareholders, as it is something they felt would be complicated by the fact that it wouldn't align with the majority of European leagues' September deadlines.
