Graham Potter, current Chelsea manager, held a press conference after the 4-1 defeat to Brighton and explained why he decided to substitute goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for the second half when his side were 3-0 down.

Chelsea lost 4-1 away to Brighton on matchday 14 of the Premier League and failed to move into direct qualification places for next season's UEFA Champions League.

The London side did not play a good game overall, so much so that they went into the break 3-0 down. As if that wasn't enough, Graham Potter decided to change goalkeeper for the second half.

After the match, the Blues coach held a press conference and explained why he decided to replace Kepa to bring on Edouard Mendy: "He felt something in the sole of his foot, so I don't know, it's too early yet.

"It was a pity that he can't continue. That is disappointing for him because he is in a very good moment.... If Kepa can't play the next few games, Mendy will play as a starter," the Chelsea boss summed up.

Regarding the match, he added: "Losing is part of the process. You have to suffer and feel pain to grow and improve. Nobody said we were finished. We have to accept today's pain and learn from it".

"As I told the players, if you lose, you have to look at it and if you made a mistake or did things wrong, you have to analyse it and do better. I prefer to look at it from that perspective. In the end, it seemed a bit too open for us and that's my responsibility," he closed.
