After sustaining an injury in training on Friday, Pogba has been assessed unfit to play for United against Liverpool this afternoon.

Pogba had a last fitness test before lunchtime kick-off at Old Trafford after being unable to finish a training session on Friday due to a gash in his leg.

If United lose to Liverpool, they will relinquish second place in the Premier League. Pogba, who was signed for £89 million, was not present when the United squad checked into their hotel on Friday evening and has since been ruled out of the match.

The Frenchman has recently had a chaotic period, after being dropped for games against Sevilla and Huddersfield, substituted in games against Newcastle and 'Spurs' whilst also being absent from an FA Cup victory over Huddersfield due a mystery illness. This prompted speculation that Pogba's relationship with Mourinho had soured, with the latter being forced to reorganise the midfield for today's match.

Following the midfielder's appearance for United against Palace on Monday, his performance was strongly criticised by Gary Neville on 'SkySports', ''His great weakness is that he plays like he's playing in the park with his mates,'' said Neville. ''It's like everything he does is like a YouTube or Instagram video. It's like it's not serious. It's like a joke to him in terms of the way he goes about things. It's no wonder Jose Mourinho has left him out for the past few weeks a number of times.''
