Gerard Pique's name was mentioned in Barcelona's extraordinary general assembly. Club president Joan Laporta spoke about the captain affectionally and said that "he's suffering." "However much money and fame you have, they are people as well."

The most attractive thing on Friday in Spanish football was Barcelona's Extraordinary Assembly in which two financial injections were apporved and the sale of 49.9% of Barca Licensing & Merchandising and television rights were confirmed.

When it came to question, Gerard Pique's name inevitably came to light. He was told by Xavi Hernandez that if he stays in the squad, he wants him 100% focussed on football. President Joan Laporta defended him.

"Pique is suffering. However much money and fame you have, they are people. Gerard is fully committed. He deserves the affection of the Barca players. Don't listen to the news which is coming out. He's a good person," Laporta said.

On asked whether he is more focussed on his football than business matters, Laporta was clear: "He's chosen to keep on being a professional footballer over a business man."
