Per Mertesacker suffers painful facial injury
The German defender was caught by an accidental elbow from Gary Cahill which left him a gruesome gash above his eye.
In the first half at Wembley, Per Mertesacker was left covered in blood after a clash with Chelsea's Gary Cahill. The English centre-back mistakenly caught the German with his elbow which left a nasty gash over his eye.
The 32-year-old defender could not continue after receiving treatment from medical staff, but Wenger calmed concerns after the match: 'I will have to speak to the medical staff about that but it doesn’t look too bad'.
Mertesacker himself looked in good spirits as he celebrated on the pitch at Wembley despite his injury.
