The 39-year-old Pepe still feels he has the strength to continue playing football. The Portuguese centre-back plans to tell the Porto president of his decision to renew his contract for another season if he can compete at the same level as his team-mates.

A possible retirement from football has not yet crossed Pepe's mind. The Porto centre-back gave an interview to 'Sport TV', where he assured that he has plenty of time left.

"I'm very honest and I'm the age I am. I know how to recognise that, nobody has to remind me. I know my ability and I have a big commitment to the club," said the Portuguese defender.

"I want to be competitive, to feel that I can play with David Carmo and Fabio Cardoso. If I can compete with them, I'll be the first to go to the president's office and tell him that I'm in a position to extend my contract," the Portuguese added about his future.

The Portugal international returned to the Portuguese club in 2018. It was the club in which he stood out in his youth and from which he made the leap to Real Madrid. This season, the player took part in a total of 20 matches, 17 as a starter.
