According to 'Marca', Luka Modric and Toni Kroos face an uphill battle to be fit in time for the return leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday after failing to return to training on Friday.

There are only a few days left until Real Madrid will play PSG in their Champions League second fixture at the Parc des Princes, but it looks like the game could come too soon for midfielders Kroos and Modric.

Marcelo has seemingly won his battle to recover in time and will most likely feature in some way for Madrid against Getafe on Saturday, even if it is just from the bench. For his teammates though, it's more complicated.

The aforementioned Spanish newspaper has detailed how both midfielders missed Madrid's training session on Friday, and with only two more to go until Tuesday, they are running out of opportunities to gain fitness ahead of the crunch match.

Therefore, head coach Zinedine Zidane may have to start looking at potential alternatives to win that key battle for them in Paris, with Mateo Kovacic, Isco, Marco Asensio, Marcos Llorente or a change of system his other options.

While Kroos and Modric desperately try to regain the necessary fitness, Madrid will be hoping for no other injury scares as they negotiate their final fixture at home to Getafe on Saturday before they can turn their full attention to progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals.
