English-born USA international Dom Dwyer has joined Orlando City for an MLS record fee.

The 26-year-old, who was released by Norwich City as a school boy, joins the Florida-based side for a fee that could rise to £1.2m.

Orlando City chief-exec Alex Leitao described Dwyer as a "fantastic player" after announcing his signing from Sporting Kansas City.

Dwyer has established himself as one of the best strikers in the MLS in recent years, scoring 68 goals in 155 games for the Kansas-based side.

The MLS sets how much money clubs are allocated each year, with the fee for Dwyer being made up of £306,000 in general allocation money, £383,000 in targeted allocation money, and £536,000 in future allocation money based on performance.

Sussex-born Dwyer has scored two goals in two games for the US national team and is married to fellow professional footballer Sydney Leroux.
