OFFICIAL: Thomas Lemar joins Girona on loan
Atletico and Girona have reached an agreement for the loan of Thomas Lemar, with no option to buy. Both clubs will share the Frenchman's wages 50/50.
Atletico Madrid continue with their clear-out following the six new faces they have unveiled so far this transfer window. After the departures of Correa, Riquelme, Saul and De Paul, the next to leave the 'Colchoneros' is Thomas Lemar.
The 'Colchoneros' have agreed a loan deal with Girona, where he will remain until 30 June 2026. There will be no option to buy, and the two clubs will share the Frenchman's salary 50/50.
Without a doubt, the 'Rojiblancos' first choice was to sell him, but there have been no convincing offers and they have had to opt for this option. Lemar has a contract until 2027 and a high salary.
The Frenchman has never really shone at Atletico. Injuries have prevented him from gaining consistency and he has barely been able to show his best form. Since signing in 2018-19, 7 seasons ago, he has only totalled 186 matches, scoring 10 goals and providing 19 assists. To put the Frenchman's contribution into context, he has not even reached 10,000 minutes played, with 112 starts out of the total number of matches.
