OFFICIAL: Inigo Martinez becomes new Barca signing
Barcelona announced on Wednesday morning that Inigo Martinez has joined the Catalan side as a free agent. The centre-back has signed until 2025.
The Catalan giants announced on Wednesday that Inigo Martinez, who played for Athletic, has signed until 2025 and will play in a Barcelona shirt next season.
Both Xavi Hernandez and the board were already interested in the centre-back but could not afford his transfer. The 32-year-old has joined as a free agent after ending his time at Bilbao.
"An agreement has been reached between FC Barcelona and Inigo Martinez for the player to join the club after his contract with Athletic Club ended," they wrote on their website.
"The player is set to sign a two-year deal that ends on June 30, 2025, with the release clause set at 400 million euros."
The Spaniard will fight for a key role in Barcelona's defence as both Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo are undisputed starters.
