Liverpool announced on Wednesday that Richard Hughes has been appointed as the English club's new sporting director. He will be in charge of the post from the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Liverpool have completed a move for Richard Hughes as new sporting director from Bournemouth, the Reds announced on social media on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old will take over football operations at the end of the current season, meaning he will begin work on Liverpool's reinforcements for the 2024/25 campaign after a successful year with the Cherries.

"I am incredibly proud to be offered this opportunity. Liverpool FC is a unique club and I’m grateful to be given a chance to serve it in this capacity. I am fully aware of the expectations and responsibilities that come with taking this position," Hughes told 'Liverpoolfc.com'.

Michael Edwards, who has returned to the club as Fenway Sports Group's chief executive of football, was responsible for persuading Richard Hughes to join the Liverpool staff.

"I’m delighted Richard has agreed to join us in this vitally important position. I’ve known him for half of my life in a professional and personal capacity and he is absolutely someone who embodies the best values of Liverpool FC. I trust him completely," Edwards said.
