The Government has approved fans to return to La Liga and Segunda matches from this weekend. Valencia, Levante, Elche, Villarreal, Celta Vigo, Castellon, Cartagena, Lugo and Mallorca are the beneficiaries.

Clubs and fans have been waiting to return to football stadia for a while. The plan was for supporters of all clubs to be allowed for the last two or last four matchdays.

However, it looks like clubs and fans will be disappointed. The Spanish Government has confirmed that only regions in Phase 1 (Valencian region, Murcia, Galicia and Balearic Islands) will be allowed fans from this weekend.

5000 spectators will be allowed into the ground or 30% of the stadium's capacity, whichever is smaller. That means Valencia, Levante, Elche, Villarreal and Celta Vigo will each get one home game with fans while Segunda sides Castellon, Cartagena, Lugo and Mallorca will get two. The other 34 teams will not be allowed spectators and no away fans will be permitted. Smoking, drinking and eating will be prohibited and a mask must be worn at all times.

The rules also apply to top flight basketball in the country.

The matches with fans are the following:

15th May - Castellon v Ponferradina, Lugo v Mirandes (both Segunda)

16th May - Valencia v Eibar, Villarreal v Sevilla, Mallorca v Alcorcon (Segunda)

18th May - Cartagena v Almeria (Segunda)

23rd May - Elche v Athletic Bilbao, Levante v Cadiz, Celta Vigo v Real Betis

24th May - Castellon v Rayo Vallecano, Mallorca v Zaragoza, Lugo v Cartagena (all Segunda)

30th May - Cartagena v Girona
