Diego Simeone has a new man in his ranks - Marcos Paulo is now an Atletico Madrid player. He anded in Madrid this Sunday ready to sign his contract with Atleti, and the club announced his arrival this Monday.
The player will sign for five seasons, until 2026. He arrives on a free transfer after his contract at Fluminense came to an end, from which he said goodbye on 30th June. Paulo has already completed his medical at his new club.
Atletico highlighted his impotance. "The 20-year-old will strengthen and add height to our attack, since he’s 1.86 m tall. Marcos Paulo can play as a left winger although he’s right-footed," his new club wrote in a statement.
There is no doubt from the Metropolitano that he will be successful. "A very promising and versatile player arrives at Atlético de Madrid. Welcome, Marcos Paulo!", they added.
Marcos Paulo is of Portuguese nationality, and in fact plays for their Under-19 side. Therefore, he will not occupy one of non-EU places in the team. In his last season with Fluminense, the 20-year-old made 42 appearances, 28 of which came as a starter. He scored eight goals and provided four assists.
Atletico have faith that he will adapt quicky to Spanish football and will soon bring joy to the fans of the club. He arrives to fill the place that Vitolo left available, after the club loaned him to Getafe.
