Newcastle can seal their qualification for Champions League football this Monday. The last time they played in Europe's best competition was in 2002-03.

The 22nd May 2023 could go down in history for Newcastle United. After being relegated twice, and promoted just as many times, the Magpies could finally secure Champions League football.

All Eddie Howe's side need to be in the group stages for next year's competition is a draw in their game with Leicester on Monday.

With 69 points already in the bank, with 2 games left to go for Newcastle, Howe's side are three points ahead of Liverpool who are fifth, and eight above Brighton.

You'd have to go all the way back to 2002-03 to remeber the last time that Newcastle United were in the Champions League. Then, the star of the side was a certain Alan Shearer, the club's top ever goalscorer, matching that feat in the whole of the Premier League.

Now, with Callum Wilson as the team's top goalscorer, Eddie Howe's Newcastle have the chance to get amongst the best. Having said that, it has come after a huge cash injection.
