Manuel Neuer has undergone successful surgery on his foot and will be sidelined until the start of 2018.

Bayern Munich have confirmed goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be out until January following surgery on a broken foot.

The German goalkeeper returned from a broken metatarsal in his left foot at the start of August but injured the same foot in training ahead of Tuesday's Bundesliga match against Schalke.

The club confirmed that Neuer has since undergone surgery on the foot and is now faced with a lengthy spell on the sidelines which is likely to leave him out of contention until the start of 2018.

This news is a big blow to the Bundesliga champions but is also a blow to the German national team, who will want their No 1 goalkeeper to be in good form going into the World Cup in Russia this summer.
