Cristiano Ronaldo made waves on Sunday evening when he imitated Lionel Messi's now iconic celebration by holding his shirt aloft but it was one of the Portuguese's team-mates who was first to celebrate in that manner...

The man in question was none other than Marcelo

The full-back scored Real's third goal in their 4-1 victory over city rivals Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final. Who would have thought that the celebration of the goal would go on to be remembered more than the goal itself?

The player, clearly emotional by having sealed victory for Real late in extra-time made various gestures to the crowd before presenting them his shirt.

The live coverage of the game changed camera angle just in time to see the Brazilian stood in front of the Real Madrid fans with his No. 12 shirt triumphantly held aloft.

The celebration has become more celebrated following Ronaldo and Messi's interpretations of it.
