Nagatomo is already Japan history. The left-back played his 12th World Cup match, making him the Japanese player with the most appearances in the biggest competition.

Japan left-back Yuto Nagatomo broke his country's record number of World Cup caps for his national team in the Qatar 2022 World Cup match against Costa Rica at Al Rayyan's Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium.

He is currently playing at Tokyo and the footballer is living his fourth World Cup for Japan.

The 36-year-old international has broken a record because no Japanese player has played 12 matches in the biggest competition.

He did it by starting the second match of Group E of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 and he can be very proud of his achievement. Japan's next match will be against Spain on Thursday.
