Roma tried to sign Nacho, 28, after Real Madrid's tour of the United States in 2018, offering him more playing time and an improved salary.
''Nacho and Juan Jesus are experienced defenders who will help us a lot,'' said James Palotta, the president of the 'giallorossi', taking for granted the arrival of the defender.
However, even though it was rumoured it was all agreed between both clubs, he didn't leave. Nacho recalled last March that his objective was always to play in Madrid and he thinks he made the right decision.
The centre-back hasn't worn the colours of any other team in his career, with the exception of Spain, since he graduated to the first team in 2010.
On Wednesday he'll come face to face with the team that missed out on his signing in the Champions League, for whom Daniele De Rossi is also a one club man, following the example of Francesco Totti.
