Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has previously admitted ot being a fan of VAR, but his opinion wasn't quite so clear cut after seeing Juan Mata's goal disallowed in his side's FA Cup win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Leading 1-0 thanks to Romelu Lukaku's opener, United thoguht they had doubled their lead just before half-time through Juan Mata, only for VAR to intervene and adjudge that the Spaniard's knee was beyond the last defender when the ball was played.

Speaking following th egame, Mourinho said that he was a fan of VAR when it "brings the truth" but admitted that the tight nature of the Mata decision had given him second thoughts.

"I keep saying that it should be a referees decision and not our decision. Why? Because the referees want to perform well," Mourinho explained.

"I don’t think they are happy to make mistakes and if they have VAR to help them to make the right decision then they would be probably happy but if it changes their good decisions to bad decisions then I don’t think they will be happy.

"During the game I don’t know, I trust and believe VAR. It is a bit frustrating because the moment I saw Kevin touching his ear, it stayed there for a long time and I thought something is going to happen. I don’t know what to say, it was a beautiful goal and if it is offside or not offside by a kneecap or one hair then I don’t know.

"We have VAR in every match in the Portugal Premier League and I saw amazing things that put the truth into the game and result and that is an amazing thing. I also saw some controversial decisions that brought VAR into a doubtful situation.

"It is like goal line technology, I’m really happy with that. I don’t want to score a goal if it’s not over the line so I am happy with that truth. If they find ways in VAR so it is always right and brings the truth then I am happy with that."

Despite the controversy United ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.
