Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that it is a shame that striker Javier Hernandez was sold before he arrived at the club as the Mexican will 'always score goals'.

Speaking after Hernandez returned to the Premier League with West Ham, Mourinho said: "I am not sure if it was his decision or the manager's decision (to leave Manchester United), but he's a good player, he's a player that will always score goals, so he is a player I would always welcome in my squad because he doesn't need many minutes on the pitch to score a goal."

"We moved in another direction and a younger player in (Romelu) Lukaku. We have (Marcus) Rashford that can be also a striker, he is originally a striker, so we didn't feel that need," explained Mourinho.

Though the Portuguese insisted that the 29-year-old was a good signing for the 'Hammers'.

"No doubt that for West Ham to get a player with his experience and his quality is very, very good," he concluded.

Hernandez will no doubt feel that he has unfinished business in the Premier League after being a bit-part player during his time at United.

There are no doubts about his ability in Germany though, where he scored 39 goals in 76 games for Bayer Leverkusen during a two-year spell.
