Despite reaching the Europa League final and a 27-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, the Portuguese manager has insisted he will do better next season.

Manchester United's season in the league has been dismal. The Europa League final could see the Red Devils lift a third trophy of the season after the Community Shield and EFL Cup victories, but United will have to settle for a sixth place on the league table.

Mourinho has made a strong point of stating that his debut season was never going to be easy: 'I try to analyse the realities before I arrived in the club, but you only know the reality when you’re inside. The first season is hard. I enjoy the second because then I know I’m not making mistakes', he said.

'You think you know the players, but you don’t. You only know them when you have them in good moments and bad moments. The one I really enjoy to do is the transition from the first to the second season'.

His track record does show that he has done considerably better in his second season in charge of Porto, Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid, so United fans will be expectant to see what can be achieved next year.
