As contract talks continue to drag on, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is becoming increasingly worried Marouane Fellaini will leave in the summer.

Manchester United triggered a one-year extension included in Fellaini's contract at the start of the year, thus rewarding the Belgian for his fine form under Jose Mourinho.

However, agreeing a deal beyond next summer is proving difficult. Despite emerging as an influential figure at Old Trafford, Fellaini has endured a troubled relationship with the club's supporters, and would be able to negotiate his exit come January.

Asked if he was worried about Fellaini's potential departure, Mourinho said: "Yes, I am," before being asked if there was anything he could do: "Nothing," he replied. "It is a discussion between the player and the board. I am not involved in contracts, in deals. And I respect both."

Fellaini has been linked with moves to Turkish sides as well as Paris Saint-Germain, who reportedly hold an interest in the towering Belgian.

"I respect the player because the player has the right to decide his future. He finishes his contract, he has the right to decide his future, and I respect the board because the decisions and the discussions are under their control," Mourinho added. "So I just wait, wishing that they will have an understanding but it's out of my control."
