Huddersfield Town's record signing Steve Mounie has reacted to being compared with former Chelsea star Didier Drogba.

Having started life with a bang in the Premier League, Huddersfield Town's Steve Mounie says he wants to avoid comparisons with former Premier League star Didier Drogba.

Mounie has already begun to prove his worth as Huddersfield Town's club record signing, having marked his Premier League debut with a brace away to Crystal Palace.

His performance has attracted early comparisons to the powerful forward play of former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, but Mounie has been quick to separate his own legacy from that of the Ivorian.

Speaking ahead of Huddersfield's trip to West Ham, Mounie told 'Sky Sports', "I watched a lot of players, but Drogba was one of the best."

"He's a great player and an example for me. I'm trying to follow his steps, but I'm Steve Mounie, and I've got to try and make my own history."

The Beninese striker has played a key role in Huddersfield's assured start to life in the Premier League, which has seen them record seven points without conceding a goal.

However, Mounie has encouraged caution so early on in the season.

"It was a really great start against Crystal Palace - but it was only the first game. There's a long way to go - we have to be aware. We need to be at our best every game as the Premier League is very hard. If you want to stay up, then you have to be strong every weekend.

"We are all together. There is great togetherness in this team. It helped as we started all together and we did the preparation early."
