Deportivo Alaves have not beaten Sevilla away from home for 64 years. The last time they managed it was back on matchday 7 of the 1954/55 La Liga season. On that occasion, Alaves won 1-2 at Sevilla.

In all these years, the Andalusians and the Basques have only met on 11 occasions in Sevilla either in La Liga or Segunda and the only victory for Alaves came in their first ever meeting at the Sanchez Pizjuan. Manuel Echezarreta coached the Basque club at the time.

In the ten trips since, the Basques have been beaten on every occasion bar one. That was in 2000 when Alaves managed to get a point in a 2-2 draw. The Uruguayan Zalayeta and Juan Carlos scored for the hosts whereas Bosnian Meho Kodro and Argentine Martin Astudillo netted for the away side.

The most recent meeting between the two in Sevilla was on the last day of last season which ended in a 1-0 Sevilla win thanks to a goal by the French-Tunisian Wissam Ben Yedder.

The two meet again on Thursday. Will Alaves finally be able to stop the rot?
