The incident happened just after the hour mark as Chile's Gonzalo Jara elbowed Germany's Timo Werner on the touchline.
The Serbian referee did not see the incident but was alerted to it by the video assistants. So far so good.
The incident was then reviewed but despite Jara clearly deliberately elbowing Werner in the face, the defender was only shown a yellow card.
According to the 'Daily Mail', FIFA is determined to use the technology next year at the World Cup despite encountering several problems with it at the Confederations Cup.
This latest incident is just one of many VAR-based controversies during the tounament.
The final was a bad-tempered affair with the game with frustrations boiling over on several occasions.
