Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough days are numbered. After not being able to get the team to a promotion opportunity, everything points towards there being a change of staff on the bench. The favourite, Jonathan Woodgate.

Jonathan Woodgate, the English former footballer who hung up his boots in 2016, could replace Tony Pulis at Middlesbrough's helm.

Pulis only arrived at 'Boro last season (2017-18) but has been unable to better the club's performances over the last year.

Over the last few days, there has been speculation that it might be Aitor Karanka that will return to manage Middlesbrough, but now it seems more likely a job for Woodgate.

The former player has been linked with a return to the north-eastern club since 2017, a club at which he spent six seasons across two different periods.

He was Steve Agnew's right-hand man for three months, between March and June 2017, and then moved on to the club's youth ranks.

Jonathan Woodgate is currently Mark Tinkler's assistant coach in the U18 team.
