Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona with a sublime free-kick as the Catalan giants looked to equal La Liga's longest unbeaten record.

Real Sociedad's undefeated run of 38 games is under threat. If Barcelona beat or draw with Leganes on Saturday, they will draw level with the long-standing record.

'Los Cules' appeared up to the task and it was none other than talisman Lionel Messi who broke the deadlock in the 26th minute.

After being taken out from behind, the Argentine forward stepped up to take the free-kick. It was a great decision as he curled his effort inside the right-hand post to gift his team the lead.
