Leo Messi's statement on the temporary lay-offs at Barça was the topic of the day on Monday, but it seems the issue will not be dying down any time soon. 'L'Équipe's cover depicting the Argentine star as the Che Guevara alluding to his statement and leadership will no doubt cause some controversy.

The prestigious newspaper has compared Lionel Messi to the famous guerrilla leader, likening his leadership to Che Guevara's.

L'Équipe understands that the Argentine's statement is a demonstration of his leadership in the dressing room, with Messi choosing to directly attack the board, blaming it for the rumours that had circled claiming the players had declined to take a pay cut and were prepared to let other club employees be temporarily laid-off in light of the situation with COVID-19

The comparison is also relevant considering that both the revolutionary and the footballer were born in the Argentine city of Rosario

Indeed, the Argentine star has shown his most revolutionary side this season, publicly hitting out at his club's board for the second time this season.

In fact, hours after Messi's words, the club's president, Josep María Bartomeu, was forced to come forward with an interview in which he defended his player.
