'ProFootballDB' has provided a lis of the top goalscorers in the major leagues at each age that Lionel Messi has been a player. In 8 of the 15, Messi is the top scorer, as his double against Espanyol led to him overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo at the age of 31.

Lionel Messi keeps breaking record after record this season and now another one has been revealed by ProFootbalDB. Messi has now scored more goals as a 31 year old than Cristiano Ronaldo did, taking him to the top in over half the years that Messi has been playing. At the age of 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 29 and 31, Messi is the top goalscorer in the major leagues.

At age 29, Messi is joint with Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo, but he has the others outright. After his brace against Espanyol on Saturday, Messi now has 31 goals aged 31. Although his free kick may be ruled out as it may have been an own goal by Victor Sanchez and not Messi.

From the age of 21, Messi begins to dominate the goalscoring charts, joint with Italian great Gilardino with 23 goals, before topping the charts outright for the next 4 years. At aged 22, he managed 34 goals, 6 more than fellow Argentine, Gonzalo Higuain and 2 more than Djibril Cisse

At 23, Messi scored 31 times for Barcelona, more than the 29 Harry Kane scored at Tottenham and the 27 Edin Dzeko scored. 24 and 25 are Messi's best years, with an astonishing 50 goals scored at 24, 20 goals ahead of his nearest rival, Kane, with Andriy Shevchenko 2 further back on 28.

Whilst at aged 25, the Argentine managed an almost equally phenomenal 46 goals, 7 ahead of Ronaldo  and 14 ahead of Mo Salah's incredible season for Liverpool last year. Aged 26, Messi does not make the top list as he had a succession of injuries, but aged 27, he climbs back to the top with a ridiculous total of 43, although that is joint with Ronaldo, it is 11 ahead of Italian Ciro Immobile.

Now aged 31, Messi has gone back to the top, with another 7 matches to play, meaning he will almost certainly comfortably beat second placed Ronaldo.

Next season Messi will need to beat Zlatan Ibrahimovic's 29 goals that he scored aged 32 in the league.

Messi is the only player on that list to have managed to reach the 50 goal mark, with the following season almost repeating that with 46 goals.

New stars

The table made by ProFootballDB also shows the introduction of new stars to this list. Kylian Mbappe for example, who is at the top of goals scored by an 18 year old, with Ousmane Dembele second.

Luka Jovic has also got onto the list, sitting in second place behind Spanish World Cup winner, Fernando Torres. Torres managed 22 goals aged 20, with Jovic currently sitting on 18 that Dele Alli, Cisse and Romelu Lukaku also managed.
