Ex-Arsenal player Paul Merson believes that it is hard to see Real Madrid not attempting to sign Harry Kane this summer, saying the Tottenham man is in a different class to out-of-form striker Karim Benzema.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been heavily linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid for a long time now, as you probably already know.

With the form he is currently in, it isn't hard to see why. The two time Golden Boot winner looks on course to be top scorer in the Premier League for a third season in a row, and has scored 34 goals in all competitions so far this season, notching the 34th against Juventus on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Karim Benzema has struggled in front of goal this season, his tally of 6 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions bringing him a fair amount of criticism from Real Madrid fans.

Pundit and ex-player Paul Merson believes that this gulf in form could be a worry for Tottenham, as he expects Real Madrid to attempt to replace Benzema in summer.

"I would be worried if I was Tottenham because money talks. £200 million, or even £160 million is a lot", he said, speaking with 'Sky Sports'.

"I can't see how Real Madrid don't go for him in the summer for £150-200 million. How's Benzema playing for Real Madrid?

"He's not in the same class as Kane. They're a million points behind Barcelona and they need a new centre-forward."

Former Celtic and Arsenal man Charlie Nicholas is in agreement with Merson when it comes to Kane's class. Speaking on the same programme, the pundit stated: "We're starting to think about Harry Kane about is he up there with the Messis - and he probably is.

"The reason for that is because it looks so effortless for him. The mix of goals he gets as a number nine, is quite remarkable.

"There's a desire in him, he goes left, he goes right, he goes through the middle. He just loves scoring goals. He loves agitating people, without provoking the situation."

Tottenham fans will be hoping that Kane, who could miss 'Spurs' next game with an ankle problem, doesn't let all the praise get to him.
