Mendy wins Marcelo's spot
Ferland Mendy has managed to win Marcelo's spot. The Frenchman is now a starter and the Brazilian, barring surprise, will have to make do with the Copa del Rey.
The best thing that Real Madrid have is their defence. The Los Blancos have an enviable defence as they have conceded just 13 goals in 21 La Liga matches.
One of the players that has stood out the most is Mendy, the Frenchman who arrived in the summer to strengthen up the LB position has won the starting spot.
Marcelo has been losing ground to the ex-Lyon player and has been relegated to the bench, something that few would have believed at the start of the season.
The Brazilian sees that the Frenchman is a threat and will have to make do with the Copa del Rey matches to try and convince Zidane that he deserves to play more.
You only have to look at the importance of Mendy on the team. He defends impeccably unlike his team mate who has a greater presence in attack.
You can't argue with the fact that Marcelo generates a lot more danger on the left when he pushes up, but the space that he leaves behind is covered very well by Mendy.
