Callum McGregor, the Celtic midfielder, is striving to prove he is worth a place in the Scotland squad in Sunday's derby clash with bitter rivals Rangers.

Scottish team coach, Alex McLeish has delayed naming the Scotland squad for friendlies against Hungary and Costa Rica until Monday.

The delay in announcing the first-choice team, means that many players will have one last chance to prove their worth to the boss. Not least, McGregor who is out to impress McLeish again following his World Cup qualifiers appearance.

Speaking to 'SkySports' the 24-year-old said: "You are always looking to impress every time you are on the pitch and Sunday is certainly no different. You have the added stuff about Scotland, everything is building up to be a positive afternoon and if you come out of that with a good performance then looking towards Scotland would be great as well. If you ask any player, to play for their country is a massive honour, I am no different to that.''

With a string of victories against Rangers, Celtic are looking to extend that run with another win on Sunday. McGregor is confident that focus will continue their undefeated record, adding that "we just have to focus on our stuff and if we go there and prepare well and we'll be confident of taking something from it." For his own personal contribution, the midfielder wants to score and said "you can't describe the feeling of scoring in that game. It's really special and I would be delighted to get one on Sunday."
