The father of PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has claimed that the Parisian club was not his first choice during the summer.

The 18-year-old established himself as one of the most highly-rated young players on the planet after a spectacular breakthrough season for Monaco last term.

His form earned him a summer move, with the youngster eventually joining French giants PSG initially on loan, ahead of a permanent £166m move next summer.

However, Spanish talk show 'Cadena Cope' reports that Mbappe initially did not want to join PSG as he preferred a move to Barcelona.

The aforementioned source claims that the player's father met with Barca officials over a potential £120m move, with a further £30m in add-ons, after Neymar's shock switch to the French capital.

Speaking on the show, agent Josep Maria Minguella claimed that Mbappe preferred the idea of a move to Catalonia over a return to Paris at first after ruling out a move to Real Madrid due to the competition for places.

Despite not getting his first-choice move, Mbappe has shown no signs of discontent with PSG, havinng scored four goals and assisted four more in ten games in all competitions so far this season.

Barca will no doubt be regretting not pushing through the deal, with Mbappe's goal against Anderlecht on Wednesday making him the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history, whilst Ousmane Dembele, the man Barca went with instead of Mbappe, still sidelined with a hamstring injury.
