PSG have announced this Monday that Kylian Mbappe has an injury to his right ankle which he suffered during the match against Saint Etienne. He will be out for three weeks and will miss the Champions League quarter-final tie with Atalanta.

Major setback for PSG. The Parisian side have revealed Kylian Mbappe's medical report this Monday and it is not good news: the French striker has suffered a bad ankle injury and will be sidelined for three weeks. He will not make the Champions League quarter-final.

"The scan carried out confirms an ankle sprain with an injury to the external ligament. After this injury, the estimated recovery time is three weeks," the statement issued by PSG's medics reads.

Thomas Tuchel's men have got Atalanta in the quarter-finals on 12th August. In other words, in 16 days time; very little time to recover completely from the injury, who will also have to see whether he will be fit for a hypothetical semi-final or final.

The striker got injured last Friday in the French Cup final when the Parisians beat Saint Etienne. Just before the half-hour mark, Mbappe was on the end of a poor challenge by Perrin and the PSG star had to go off injured.

Alarm bells were set off straight away and rightly so. Towards the back end of the contest, Mbappe emerged from the tunnel on crutches and with his ankle heavily bandaged

Despite the fact Mbappe was smiling with his teammates during the celebrations, there were some signs of concern and encouragement from some members of the squad, especially Neymar. The 21 year-old Frenchman will definitely not be back for PSG's Champions League return, but could be fit for the semi-final if PSG get past Atalanta.
