Liverpool defender Joel Matip has said he wants teams to fear a trip to Anfield as they scored for the 21st consecutive home game.

Matip was on the scoresheet as Jurgen Klopp's side ran out 3-0 winners against Southampton on Saturday, and he wants this streak to continue.

"I think it should always be a fear to come to Anfield as an opposing team," he said.

"But we are working hard to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the opponent and we are on a good way. I think nobody enjoys to play here."

It was an important game for Matip, who is continuing his recovery from a thigh operation in April.

"After this long time, after this injury, it feels great to start again and to play. It was a nice feeling to be on the field 90 minutes," he continued.

"Sure, it was quite a long time with the injury but now I'm fit and on a good way. I still need some time but (I'm) looking forward to the next game.

"I was not too lucky with scoring goals during my time at Liverpool but I hope that maybe this season I can score a few more goals.

"It always helps the team and helps me get self-confidence for the game."
