Mathys Tel has revealed the personal impact of being excluded from Tottenham Hotspur’s UEFA Champions League squad ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Speaking to Le Telegramme, the £30 million summer signing said: "When you're not on the list, of course it hurts, but I stay positive whatever the situation."
He praised Spurs manager Frank for his respectful communication, "Thomas Frank called me, very respectful, he simply told me his choice… I was not in the Champions League list."
"I've worked a lot on the mental side. It's a disappointment, I would have liked to be there, but it's the coach's choice and you can only respect it and work to respond in the best way on the pitch," he added.
The French forward reflected on his personal growth, stating, "I have learned that no matter what the situation, you have to be patient. Sometimes there are things you deserve, but you don't get them in return. So I have gained maturity and experience, and I think that today it has shaped my personality and character."
Frank’s decision was influenced by squad restrictions and new signings, including Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani, both named in the Champions League roster.
