Mariano: 'No 7 an enormous responsibility'
Real Madrid forward Mariano admitted he understands the significance that his No. 7 shirt holds at the club, after impressing on his second debut on Wednesday night.
Upon his return to 'Los Blancos' from Lyon, Mariano was handed the significant number previously worn by Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul before him.
After scoring a spectacular goal in the Champions League against Roma, Mariano spoke to Real's official website:
"Wearing the number seven is an enormous responsibility because the players who have worn it in the past were and will continue to be legends. I intend to keep working hard.
"I'm very happy with the start, a win and a goal in my opening game.
"I felt the support and warmth from the crowd at the Bernabeu, both in the warm-up and when coming on, and I'm very grateful for how they've welcomed me.
"I couldn't wait. I try and work hard every day to repay the support the fans have shown me."
