Real Madrid confirmed that Mariano Díaz had tested positive for coronavirus in the PCR test carried out on Tuesday. The striker, minutes later, thanked the all those who have messaged him on social media.

It seemed that the pandemic caused by the coronavirus would allow a good - or quiet - closure of the season in Spanish football after the resumption of competitions, but then came the 'case Fuenlabrada' and the positive in Portugalete.

For the moment, the closure of LaLiga SmartBank 2019-20 has not been solved, and it seems that it is going to be long: the examining magistrate has summoned Hugo Fraile, Jonathan Praena, José Ramón Sandoval and the club's doctor to testify.

A few days later came the suspension of Portugalete-Sestao River by a positive in COVID-19 in the environment of a player of the table directed by Ezequiel Loza. The fears were fulfilled and the player in question was also infected.

And this Tuesday morning, several sources leaked that a player had tested positive in the latest rounds of testing.

A few minutes later, the club announced that it was Mariano Diaz. Los Blancos, moreover, confirmed that the footballer was well and at home, isolated.

The forward wanted to thank for the support received on social media: "I am very grateful for your messages of support, I am perfectly fine, thanks to God. My family and friends are also doing well".

"I'm home free now and I hope to get back to normal soon and be with my team-mates and the team soon," the message concluded.

Real Madrid will have to visit Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 and, for the moment, Mariano's diagnostic does not seem to be causing the suspension of the match. The player, barring any surprises, will be missing out on the Etihad Stadium.
