Marcos Alonso opened Chelsea's league goal tally in the new Premier League season with a beautiful free-kick into the top corner. The Spaniard struck with the inside of his left boot from the edge of the area and denied Guaita any chance of Crystal Palace conceding.

The first goal for the European champions and super-champions in their domestic category, the Premier League, has a Spanish accent and the signature of Marcos Alonso. He scored Thomas Tuchel's side's first goal of the new campaign in the English top flight. He scored from a free-kick in the 27th minute with a superb strike.

He struck the ball with the inside surface of his left boot, giving the ball a devilish spin that left Guaita with no chance of preventing the 1-0 lead becoming a reality. The Eagles had been struggling to stop the Blues' onslaught for some time. The goal was expected to come not too late.

Soon after, the visitors finally crumbled as the home side overwhelmed the back line with constant attacks. Pulisic, before the break - in the 40th minute, to be precise - doubled the gap on the scoreboard. In the second half, Chalobah, with a powerful shot from outside the area, made it 3-0.

Marcos Alonso's last goal had come in May, when he was on target in a 2-1 win over Manchester City in the 2020-21 Premier League season. At the time, the Sky Blues went on to clinch the title after yet another imperial sporting year.
