The veteran Argentina keeper for Porto, Augustin Marchesin, who arrived in summer 2019 from Club America in Mexico to replace Iker Casillas, has not started the season well: he was on the substitutes bench for the first two games and he has just had an operation on a meniscus injury.
Atter two seasons of being the indisputable number one and being considered one of the best keepers in the Portuguese league, he was on the bench for the first two league games. Porto coach Sergio Conceicao decided to go for 21 year-old academy goalie Diogo Costa.
The start of the season has been even worse as he will be out for several weeks after having an operation on the internal meniscus in his right knee.
According to the club, he has just had an arthroscopy at the Sao Francisco hospital in Porto.
It is expected that he will be out for around a month until he recovers completely.
Marchesin was the number two keeper for Argentina at the Copa America which they ended up winning after beating Brazil 1-0 in the final on 11th July. Coach Lionel Scaloni preferred to use Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in goal.
