Paul Pogba's contract expires in June 2022. Real Madrid have been linked as a possible destination and, if he finally decides not to renew and leave Man Utd, 'The Independent' reports that Man Utd will try and sign Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.

The January transfer window is just around the corner. Clubs are preparing to bring in reinforcements for the rest of the season.

But some clubs are looking beyond January. It is important to have a clear plan of action for the summer and Man Utd are one of those.

Everything seems to indicate that Paul Pogba will leave. His contract expires in June and there is no progress on his new contract. United are accepting that his days at the club are numbered.

Man Utd have several options on the table to replace him, according to 'The Independent'. Among those is reportedly Frenkie de Jong. The English club are looking for a player of his characteristics and they could try and get him in January.

Barcelona's delicate financial situation would suggest that he could leave. The English press are speculating on his departure as they say his sale could help pay for Sterling's signing. That could not be further from the truth though.

De Jong wants to stay at the Camp Nou and Xavi counts on him. He has made it clear to the board that De Jong has a place in the XI and, therefore, hopes the Dutchman is not sold.

Another option for Man Utd is that if De Jong does not want to come Old Trafford, West Ham's Declan Rice could be an option. He has been on Man Utd's radar for a while.
