After an eventful summer break, the Premier League is finally back! With many teams aiming for the title, the Manchester United side is still trying its best to get back to its glory days.
Sadly, it has not started well with a 0-1 loss to Arsenal at home. Ruben Amorim has a lot of work ahead of him, and there are a lot of questions to answer, as always.
So who better to ask them than the newest Stake ambassador, the United legend Patrice Evra? The retired French star sat down with the online casino and sportsbook for the first of many exclusive interviews. Talking about his predictions for United’s season, Evra said that “with United, you never know,” which is right on. “One day they make you dream, the next they break your heart. But if they get that old fighting spirit back, the one where players bleed for the shirt, they can shock people.” If you want to bet on Premier League in 2025, Evra’s insights are a treasure trove.
Talking about the current boss, Amorim, Stake asked about the security of his job if he loses more than half of the team’s first 10 games. Evra kept it real, saying, “Football is a jungle. When results don’t come, the manager is always the first to go. But if you keep changing the chef, the soup will never taste right. Give him time, but at United, time is expensive.”
Signings were a big part of the talk, and Evra commented on a few names. He said that he would have liked for the team to sign Alexander Isak, saying “he’s a killer,” and that “those guys score even when they have a bad game,” them being “how you win titles.” He also talked about goalkeepers, saying, “Donarumma is top class, but upgrading isn’t just about names. Onana’s qualities fit United, [but] the problem is the whole defense.”
Going back to his days under Sir Alex, Stake.com asked whether the current squad would make it. Again, Patrice was ruthless with his answer, saying, “No chance. Sir Alex was ruthless; if you didn’t perform, you were out. That’s why we won everything.”
There was also some talk about the Champions League. Answering how far Bryan Mbeumo and Cunha can take United in Europe, Evra claimed that “they’re good players,” but that “United needs more than good, they need warriors who hate losing. The Slovenian player Benjamin Sesko was a big point of conversation. It seems United beat Newcastle to signing him, and Evra commented on his potential. “Sesko’s got hunger”, said Evra, “and the physique to make it. But at United, talent is step one; the shirt is heavy.” As for whether he will compete with Hojlund in the future, he said, “Competition is healthy. If a new signing scares you, you’re in the wrong job. Use it to push yourself.” Coldblooded and true.
Sesko was also linked to Arsenal before they opted for Gyokeres, so Stake wanted to know who the better signing is. “Both are exciting,” said the French star, “but Sesko has that raw power United fans love. If he adapts quickly, Old Trafford will sign his name.”
Putting it plainly, Stake asked who will have a more successful season between he two teams. “My heart says United,” the former club legend said, “but my brain says wait and see. Potential means nothing if you don’t turn it into points.
Talking about the city rivals Man City, Stake asked about their signings and whether Pep is in trouble after a trophyless season. “Cherki is magic with the ball. Replace Kevin De Bruyne? That’s like replacing your mum’s cooking, almost impossible, but he can make his own recipe.” As for the boss, he was sure, “Pep in trouble? No chance. There were also miscellaneous topics during the exclusive interview. Evra commented that Dembele deserves the Ballon d’Or, saying, “With the season he’s had at PSG, he’s been unstoppable, he makes defenders look dizzy. If that magic keeps, the Ballon d’Or is waiting for him.” And on Rashford joining Barcelona on loan from his former club United, Evra revealed that “sometimes a change of air brings out your best.”
Speaking on one of UTD’s biggest rivals, Chelsea, and their Club World Cup win, perhaps a fluke, Evra said about their EPL chances, “Chelsea are like that friend who disappears then shows up looking sharp. If they stay consistent, yes, they can fight for it. Cole’s fearless and creative. Best in the world? Not yet, but he’s knocking on the door.”
Keeping with La Liga, he was asked about Kylian Mbappe going trophyless at Madrid last season, his first away from PSG, and whether he and Vini Jr. can play together. “Mbappé and Vini together? It’s like putting Ferrari and Lamborghini in the same garage and expecting harmony. Both brilliant, but hard to make it work.”
Talking about the two legends, Messi and Ronaldo, Stake asked about the Portuguese going to MLS and playing against the Argentine. “Of course! Two legends, one last dance, everyone would watch.” Continuing on the same note, the obligatory World Cup topic came up, as in if a final between the two would the the ultimate finale to their rivalry. “That would be like the last Marvel movie. Everyone would stop to watch.” Indeed, we would!
