Luke Shaw could leave for nothing at the end of the summer transfer window as he becomes a free agent, but Manchester United could look to sign him on a new deal, if nothing but to protect the initial £30m spent on the player.

Luke Shaw will fly with the Manchester United squad to Los Angeles on Sunday, hoping to win a place in Jose Mourinho's good books.

However, the 23-year-old will not rush into a new contract with the club.

Shaw, who arrived at Olf Trafford as a £30m buy from Southampton, could end up leaving when he becomes a free agent next summer.

The club want to protect their investment and get him to sign a new contract, but according to the 'Daily Mail' boss Jose Mourinho is not convinced by the player.

Shaw, who has been criticised for his fitness in the past, flew out to Dubai before preseason began, losing weight and undertaking general strength and conditioning excercises.

Last season, Shaw made just eight Premier League appearances and has grown more and more frustrated by the lack of faith shown by Mourinho in him.

Despite Shaw's enthusiasm to prove himself, Mourinho has been looking at other options, and could be looking to sign another left-back after Daley Blind's move to Ajax was confirmed.

It has been reported by the 'Daily Mail' that the Manchester United boss could be looking to play new signing Diogo Dalot on the left-side of defense, following his move from FC Porto.

United, who are still missing a number of players due to the World Cup, will train in Los Angeles this week before they begin their tour with a game against Club America in Arizona.
