Crystal Palace midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland are both expected to start England's friendly against Germany at Wembley on Friday according to reports.

Should those reports be true, Chelsea loanee Loftus-Cheek will make his England debut. The 21-year-old has impressed on loan with the 'Eagles' so far this season despite the club struggling at the foot of the Premier League table.

Butland, meanwhile will take over from regular No 1 Joe Hart. The Stoke stopper is widely considered to be Hart's long-term successor and played in England's final qualifier against Lithuania last month, meaning that he is set to play in two consecutive England games for the first time.

Gareth Southgate faces late calls on the availability of Gary Cahill and Michael Keane, who are both suffering from knocks. With Cahill a doubt, Hart set to be on the bench, Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane having withdrawn from the squad due to injury and Wayne Rooney's international retirement, Southgate will have to name a new captain for the game, with Tottenham's Eric Dier favourite for the role, though he faces competition form Manchester City defender John Stones.

The former Middlesbrough boss is set to play a makeshift side against the world champions after no less than six players withdrew from the squad at short notice. Fabian Delph, Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling all pulled out, leading to late call-ups for Jack Cork and Jake Livermore.

Meanwhile, Southgate has also revealed that Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater rejected a call-up to the squad, saying:"I spoke to Danny earlier in the week but he feels he is not fit enough to play."

Germany are without Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Marco Reus, Leon Goretzka and Jonas Hector for the game, with all five sidelined through injury. Joachim Low could hand a Germany debut to RB Leipzig left-back Marcel Halstenberg, whilst Ilkay Gundogan and Mario Gotze are likely to play some part as they return from their respective injury nightmares.
