Trent Alexander-Arnold's dream week has improved yet again after hearing Steven Gerrard heap praise on him.

After helping Liverpool to beat Hoffenheim in the first lef of their Champions League qualfiier by scoring a superb free-kick, Alexander-Arnold has received praise from one of his idols.

Steven Gerrard praised the youngster for stepping up when it mattered most and is impressed with how he has conducted himself. The Liverpool legend also revealed that Alexander-Arnold still travels to the academy for advice and warned Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne that his starting place may soon be under threat from the youngster who continues to improve. 

Alexander-Arnold said of Gerrard's praise: "It's always good to get compliments from your idol and I am hoping to live up to his words.

"It is indescribable to be honest, special in so many different ways for me personally and I've definitely ticked the box off.

"I don't tend to think about it (progressing). I just try to go to Melwood every day and try to fight for my position for the weekend because you can't take for granted you are going to play again."
