As Fabrizio Romano reported, Atletico Madrid have set their sights on Andrew Robertson to strengthen the left-back position. The Scot is under contract with Liverpool until 2026 but is reportedly open to a move to Atletico. However, the Reds are unlikely to make his departure easy.
While Atletico are currently focused on the Club World Cup, where they will make their debut against PSG on Sunday, the board continue to work on new signings ahead of next season, with defence clearly a priority area.
In recent days, Theo Hernandez was linked with a move to the Rojiblancos to bolster the left flank. Yet, this option was met with resistance from parts of the fanbase, and several media outlets claimed that some club insiders ultimately blocked the deal.
With that possibility now ruled out, Atletico have turned their attention to a new target, as Fabrizio Romano revealed. Robertson, whose contract with Liverpool runs until June 2026, is said to view a transfer to the Madrid side positively.
Nonetheless, the Reds are not expected to make his exit straightforward. Despite losing some prominence and with Kerkez anticipated as the main reinforcement for that position, the Scotland international remains highly valued at Anfield. Talks between the two clubs have already begun.
