According to 'Sky Italy', Liverpool fans will be under constant police protection when they head to Rome for the Champions League return leg next week.

After a 53-year-old was seriously injured at Anfield ahead of the Champions League semi-final clash against Roma on Tuesday, significant precautions will be taken for the second leg in Rome.

Sean Cox, a father of three, is still in a critical condition after being attacked outside the stadium on Tuesday evening.

To protect against any repeats of violent behaviour, Italian authorities have contacted the Italian Olympic Committee, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Roma to ensure fan safety next week.

The four bodies are jointly responsible for policing the match and have been in constant contact in order to prevent anti-social behaviour from endangering any supporters.

They announced that Liverpool fans travelling to Rome will be under continual police presence and there will likely be a dedicated safe area for away fans at the ground.
