The Times published an Edge Health study on NHS data from the Liverpool-Atletico Champions League match.

One of the last major matches held with crowds before the football lockout was the Liverpool-Atlético at Anfield. According to some experts, the trip of several Spanish fans to the Beatles' city may have unwittingly helped the spread of the coronavirus in England.

An Edge Health study published by 'The Times' on data from the British National Health Service (NHS) suggested that the Anfield crash may have indirectly led to the death of 41 people between 25 and 35 days later.

Spain had 640,000 positive cases on 11 March, according to an estimate made in England, and that figure was 640% of the total for Great Britain.

Although there were no temperature or health checks on the Atletico fans who travelled to Liverpool on arrival, the English authorities were determined to blame the Spaniards who had been watching the match for the spectacular spread of the virus in England since then.

"It was embarrassing and now we're seeing the consequences," said the city's health officials, to which the mayor added: "It shouldn't have been allowed, but it wasn't my decision."

The match was played in front of 52,000 spectators, 3,000 of whom were Atletico fans who travelled from Spain.
